WHAT BENEFITS CAN I EXPECT?

The Benefits of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Weight Training

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and weight training are two of the most effective forms of exercise for improving your overall health and wellbeing.

When combined, they provide a comprehensive approach to fitness that will help you achieve your goals faster and more effectively.

Here are just a few of the many benefits of practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and weight training:

Improved Physical Fitness:

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an intense workout that will improve your cardiovascular health, strength, and flexibility. Weight training, on the other hand, will help you build lean muscle and increase your overall strength. By combining the two, you'll get a full-body workout that will help you achieve your fitness goals faster.

Increased Confidence:

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a self-defense system that will give you the confidence to handle any situation. With each class, you'll develop your skills and feel more empowered, both on and off the mat.

Mental Benefits:

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a challenging sport that requires focus, discipline, and perseverance. As you progress in your training, you'll find that your mental toughness and resilience will improve, leading to a more positive outlook on life.

Weight Management:

Weight training is an effective way to build lean muscle, which burns more calories even when you're not working out. By incorporating weight training into your fitness routine, you'll be able to manage your weight more effectively and achieve your desired physique.

Stress Relief:

Both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and weight training can be a great outlet for stress. Whether you're looking to relieve stress after a long day at work or simply looking for a way to clear your mind, practicing these forms of exercise can provide the relief you need.

Improved Coordination:

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu requires a great deal of coordination and dexterity. As you progress in your training, you'll find that your overall coordination improves, leading to better balance and coordination in your daily life.

In conclusion, the combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and weight training is the perfect formula for a healthier, happier you.

Whether you're looking to get in shape, improve your confidence, or simply have fun, these forms of exercise offer a multitude of benefits that will help you achieve your goals.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN THE FIRST CLASS?

Class

A typical class starts with a moderate warm up. This usually involves jogging around the room incorporated with light calisthenics. The warm up continues with daily Jiu Jitsu drills that focus on the basic movements of the sport.

After warm ups the coach starts instruction of a specific foundational movement while the class watches. After a few minutes of instruction the class pairs off and lightly drills the learned technique.

The last 20 to 30 minutes of class involves live practice. This is where the cardio kicks in. Live practice or rolling involves two students using the skills they have learned to attempt to submit their teammate.

WHAT IS A PRIVATE LESSON?

We offer a free intro lesson for new members that consists of a private 1 on 1 lesson with a ranked instructor. During this lesson your coach will show the fundamentals and help you get familiar with the basics.

All of our white belt members receive 1 private lesson per month to help your progression and help focus your training on the next area of growth.

World Class Instructors

Professor Olsen

4th Degree Black Belt

Brandon Olsen is the Head Instructor for Equipe Behring USA. Professor Olsen grew up wrestling in Western Montana. He lived in Ecuador for a couple of years before attending college at Montana State University-Northern in Havre, MT. He quickly joined their wrestling team under Head Coach David Ray, who served as Assistant Coach to the iconic Olympic Gold Medalist Tom Brands at Iowa (a famous wrestling program). Ray led a stellar group to two NAIA Team national titles. Olsen narrowly missed becoming an All-American. Waiting for the next wrestling season, fate, it seemed, had a different destiny for him. He discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!

While training BJJ, Olsen proved to be a natural. He picked up the art quickly never forgetting his wrestling roots, but leaving behind collegiate sports. It was here that Olsen met Peter Iacavazzi who introduced him to the Behring Family and their line of Jiu-Jitsu. Olsen is Iacavazzi's best student and was his first promoted black belt in BJJ.

He pursued MMA and soon fought as a Pro in many events and for many titles, winning several. He is a 5X Grapplers Quest Submission Wrestling National Champion, a 3X Open Weight (Absolute) Runner-up. He wrestled for 2X NAIA National Champions MSU-Northern. He also fought for WEC World Championship Title MMA. Recently, Professor Olsen has earned podium finishes in multiple IBJJF Gi and No Gi competitions. He has a bronze and silver finish in the Master's World Championships with a gold shortly to follow, no doubtedly.

Now, Professor Olsen spends his time training future champions. His school in Hamilton, MT is home to many students. Having produced three black belts of his own (Professor Brown included), Olsen focuses on building more. His children, no surprise, are now following in his footsteps and have started their own wall of trophies.

Coach Komodo

Brown Belt

Komodo has been training in martial arts since he was a small child. He has studied many styles including Muay Thai, American Kenpo Karate, Pencak Silat and boxing. He has worked with famous martial artists in Hollywood and enjoys competing at the national level.

He has a unique teaching style that focuses on concepts that help students overcome plateaus in their training. He is known for using food references to help students remember techniques. "Peanut Butter" is something he says a lot. You will have to try a class to find out why.

He started training BJJ with Bret Hamlin before meeting Brandon Olsen during a seminar. He is now a BJJ brown belt under Professor Brandon Olsen (4th Degree Black Belt and Master Sylvio Behring an 8th degree Koral belt). Komodo has won multiple IBJJF Gold and Silver medals as a competitor. There is a video of his martial arts journey below.

BUILD SELF ESTEEM

"Jiu Jitsu teaches you how to survive on the mat and thrive in the world."

- Rickson Gracie.

COMMUNITY

"To be champion all you have to do is train. But first, one must be a good person. Be a friend at the academy, learn to help. To be good at Jiu-Jitsu it’s all about believing and training, there isn’t that much else you can do."

- Rodolfo Vieira

PHYSICAL FITNESS

"The rule is to train, train and train some more. Train until the lamb becomes the lion."

– Paulo Miyao

SELF DEFENSE

"Who wants to leave the door open to being dominated physically by another human being? Jiu Jitsu gives you the ability to not be dominated by that person, and to me, that’s real peace of mind. I don’t have to worry about that when I’m walking around in the world."

- Jocko Willink
